Fake Blood

There was no avoiding the fact that we needed fake blood in the production, as it was necessary to the storyline. We were looking for fake blood that looked fresh and realistic, whilst having the right consistancy. It was also preferable that the blood did not stain, and that it could be easily washed off the floor and skin.

It was recommended to us that we use cornstarch and red food dye, and this was to be the basis of our fake blood. We also researched further into this, and found that in order for the fake blood not to stain, we should use red poster paint instead. We tried out several different batches, each with different amounts of the ingredients, and settled on our fake blood, which can be seen to the right.

We used fake blood in our production as it was necessary to the plot line. The sight of blood in a film naturally makes the audience feel on edge and scared.

Death Tag

A small cardboard tag tied onto the patient's toe. I suggested this idea as often, when someone dies on a film in a hospital, they have a small tag put on their toe stating the time and place of their death.

We did this because it would trick the audience at the beginning of the film into thinking that the person in the bed is dead, to surprise them when he moves, as surprise has become a convention in the thriller genre.

Hospital Bed

The bed was necessary for the plot as at the beginning, the character wakes up in a hospital bed. It needed to look mechanical and basic, like the kind usually found in a hospital, which it does.

The bed has no intended effect on the audience as such, but we put it in the production to make it seem more authentic and realistic, making the plot more believable to the audience.

'IV' Tube

This, as you can tell from up close, is not an IV Tube at all, but a plain tube stuck on with medical tape. It did not have to be too detailed as it would only be in the shot for a couple of seconds, but it had to be obvious to the audience what it was.

This again makes it seem more genuine, as if he really has just woke up in a hospital. It gets the audience to think that maybe he has been operated on, and wonder how he is still alive, adding to suspense.

Chair

A minor prop, this is used when the character gets up off the floor. It has little significance in the film, but nevertheless plays a role in making it seem more realistic to the audience.
